Depression is a common problem in nursing home residents. It is frequently difficult to differentiate major depression, requiring treatment with medication, from sadness and demoralization related to life circumstances. Regardless of the cause, it is essential that nursing home staff members learn to identify and manage symptoms of depression in residents.
This program may be used to teach Geriatric Nursing Assistants how to identify and report symptoms of depression. It also identifies strategies they can use when interacting with elderly persons with depressive symptoms.
