Shakissha moves from a school for children with special needs to a mainstream 4th grade. As she gets ready for her transition, her new class gets ready to welcome her by understanding how she is mostly the same as them.

Once she arrives, all the preparation is forgotten, as Shakissha just automatically fits in with her quest for a boyfriend and her dislike of the nasty school pizza.

Shakissha and Friends has been broadcast nationally on public television stations and has recieved many recognitions and awards including a Silver Award presented by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a Silver Apple from the National Educational Film and Video Festival, and an Honorable Mention from the American Journal of Nursing.
